Invest in good-quality sunglasses to protect your eyes this summer. If you plan to go swimming, remember to wear goggles to keep away irritants present in the water. 

 


Stay Well Hydrated 

 

 

Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated on the hot summer days. Apart from being good for your skin and overall health, water helps keep the eyes lubricated. Hydration is vital for the quantity and quality of your tears. 

 

If you have chronic dry eye, drink plenty of water as the temperatures rise. Remember, you lose more water as you sweat in the summer heat. Carry a bottle of water every time you go out. Limit consumption of drinks like alcohol that can cause dehydration.

Resting Your Eyes 

 

 

Resting is a simple yet effective way to reduce dry eye symptoms. For most people, summer is the best time to participate in a wide range of activities. Spending hours at the beach, reading, or watching your favorite shows all day can take its toll on your eyes. 

 

It is vital to rest your eyes for short periods throughout the day. Take time to close your eyes while massaging the eyelids. It will help stimulate oil production. Placing a warm compress over the eyes can help soothe them and enhance lubrication.  

 

Wearing contact lenses can be uncomfortable for anyone with dry eyes. If you find it difficult to wear your lenses, talk to your eye doctor about special contact lenses. A different lens material may be more comfortable for you. If your dry eye symptoms continue, consult your eye doctor about other ways to manage the condition.
